3. This album is a time capsule of 60's emo pop AND the first public airing of Bernie Taupin's poems. This album is one of my absolute favorites for remembering the 60's. The works range from puzzling (Western Ford Gateway), quirky and catchy (Empty Sky, Just Like a Strange Rain), to soulfully magnificent (Skyline Pigeon)/5(8).

4. Mar 12,  · I think Empty Sky, Sails and Western Ford Gateway could be on any later Elton album and succeed just fine. Not including Skyline Pigeon of course. I think the other 3 rival it quite well. Half of this album is pretty good. The other half is the infancy/growing of Elton.

Jan 09,  · For those unaware of the existence of this Elton John podcast, here's a heads up: I Guess That's Why They Call It The Elton John Podcast Episode 31 is a lengthy in-depth discussion of the Empty Sky album. As the presenter says, this album is quite unlike any other album that Elton recorded. It's also an album that did not belong in its era.
